Circus Square Park

During the master planning process, consultants noticed an entire block of green space on old maps labeled the Circus Lot. Circus Square is a project to re-create that downtown green space as a catalyst for revitalization in the surrounding blocks.

The DRA has received 2 million in federal funding to acquire property in and around circus square, including the historic GallowayMotorsBuilding (601 State Street). The DRA used a State grant to bring landscape architects to work with a design committee and the community to create a conceptual plan for Circus Square.

The development of this vital downtown project continues to progress at a pace far greater than anticipated by the 2002 District Revitalization Strategy. To date, $2,522,000 has been spent on land acquisition and design; the majority of that money coming from state Community Development Block Grants and other funding sources obtained through DRA's participation in the Renaissance on Main program.

In their FY 05/06 budget, the City of Bowlig Green echoed the state's confidence in the project by allocating $3.1 million to complete land acquisition and and finalize design and construction of this important pedestrian destination. The final design, based on a community chosen conceptual plan, will include a concert lawn, interactive fountain, and space for farmer's market. You can view drawings of the park on our homepage.

Galloway Motors Building (601 State)

The DRA is working on a feasibility study for the GallowayMotorsBuilding using state funds. The DRA has applied for and received $250,000 in State funds to rehabilitate the GallowayMotorsBuilding. The adaptive re-use of this building will create jobs and provide services for both residents and visitors.
